In the old days

I used to post a lot of pictures on my blog

I somtimes even posted videos

A post would often just consist of a few good links that I’d stumbled upon

Or maybe just a brief update on what I was doing or where I was

Or maybe a recap of a few news items

Now

I post my pictures on Flickr

For vid’s I point to youtube

My links are on de.licio.us

Precense update and tiny posts (less than 140 characters) are done via Jaiku

And interesting news items are aggregated in my Google Reader shared items

So what’s left for the blog?

Well – writing, I guess. Posts that are lengthy enough that they couldn’t just as well be written on my mobile phone.

The people who read my blog know where my pictures are, they know my Jaiku page and through there they’ll be updated on everything I post on Flickr, de.licio.us, Google Reader etc., so there’s really no point in repeating that stuff here, right?

This place is for writing. Well that and reading of course… heavy…

I’ve noticed a radical drop in readers over the last couple of days. There are two possible explanations (probably more, but I’ll only go in to two)

All of a sudden my writing sucks worse than it used to. For obvious reasons I can’t really be an impartial judge of that.

I haven’t posted in a while – God, I hope that’s it

If we subscribe to theory number two (let’s do that, huh), what does this tell us? Well, having checked my stats (referrers – meaning where do the readers come from) I’ve noticed that a large percentage of my readers come from various RSS services. Technorati, overskrift.dk (Danish blog aggregator), Netvibes, Google Reader, bloglines etc. What this means is that to those readers I exist when I post – new meaning to phrases like ‘I write therefore I am’ or ‘if a tree falls…’

So, it’s feeding time! I’ll try and get a few posts in this weekend after hours (yes, I’m working this weekend)

Hmmm… So I decided to make my archive public again… I the light of my post as of last week. Turns out that – when I closed down the blog for a while – I deleted most of it before I thought of just making my posts private. On top of that, my web service doesn’t supprt the CURL extension for php (or some BS like that) – meaning that it won’t let me import my old Blogger-posts… so much for that idea!

So just a few posts from the last year or so – the rest seem to be lost for good (boo-hoo)
