I’m a huge fan of hellotxt – it enables me do status-posting on e helluvalot of services that I would otherwise probably never post to. and as it turns out, posting on services like Plaxo and LinkedIn (where I wouldn’t post if I couldn’t do it automatically while posting on Twitter or Facebook) actually does spark up conversations.

But where to draw the line? And how?

At the moment I cross-post to:

twitter

jaiku

Pownce

facebook

plaxo

LinkedIn

myspace

I’m considering removing facebook from the list and posting separately on that one, and I suppose I could target my posts to Plaxo and LinkedIn more acurately to their intended audience. On the other hand, I do enjoy posting ridiculously personal status updates to up-tight-ish LinkedIn.

Any thoughts on cross-posting out there? (other than “don’t”)

I now have as many contacts on Facebook as I do on LinkedIn. Why am I telling you this? Because to me it really underlines the recent explosive success of Facebook.

I’ve had my Facebook account for approximately 4 or 5 months, and my network seems to grow at a steady rate, showing no signs of stagnation.

My LinkedIn account is a couple of years old and grew very slowly up until the point when I signed up to Facebook. Since then it has stagnated completely.

And who is in my respective networks? Is it LinkedIn for business and Facebook for fun? Not even close! both networks are a mish mash of friends, clients, co-workers from back in the day, family and the guys I work with now. And if you ask me, that’s the way it should be.

Cause essentially, who am I to decide which contacts could be relevant to whom, right? I mean there’s a very real chance that one of my friends or family members could have something to offer to a client or co-worker of mine, right?

What I’m saying, really, is that the distinction between private contacts and business contacts is futile – I gave it up quite a while back, and it was a weight off my shoulders!

I’m a signer-upper (YES, it’s a word).

I tend to get so excited, when I see opportunities for trying out new pieces of software, joining new networks and having a look at who’s there and so on and so forth. And I do believe that networking and social software wil grow stronger and stronger in the years to come. But sometimes I wonder how many networks I really NEED to join?

Asides from having joined a couple of groups at flickr, betatesting imity, and a bunch of other stuff, I’m also on LinkedIn, and I’m pretty sure it’s the place where I can get in touch with the most people, should I need to.

But recently, kommunikationsforum (a Dansih website about communication) launched a network, and I couldn’t help but join. Maybe I’m hoping that this network will cater to my specific interests (communication and what not) and my network at LinkedIn will be bigger and more diverse? But maybe networks are like newsletters – You sign up to a bunch of them but end up using only a few?
