[UPDATE]: scratch the liive-blogging thing. doing a bit of video instead.

I’ve already blogged about Copenhagen Twestival over at Re: but I thought I’d give a shout out to the project and the two great Danes who spearhead the event here at appoulsen.dk as well (nice one guys – you ROCK).

Tonight a bunch of twitter-users all over the world will meet up in a bunch of cities and raise a bunch of Benjamins to secure clean water where it is most needed. While the Copenhagen event is sold out, I still suggest you get out your virtual wallet and give!

While the obvious choice would be to tweet my ass off tonight, I’m considering a bit of light live-blogging instead. Mainly because I miss blogging, and WordPress 2.7 is SO sweet, I feel like looking at it all the time.

The programme for the evening looks good, so there should be plenty of stuff to write about.

See ya there – or here.

Ernst mentioned Posterous in a tweet recently, and I spent some time checking it out yesterday.

Basically, Posterous is a super simple blogging tool that never requires you to sign up or learn your way around a back end.

You activate your account and post your first post all at once, simply by sending an email to post@posterous.com.

The system creates an account for you, gives you a URL based on your name and makes your email subject field the title and the body text the post itself. It then sends you a confirmation link.

You can log in and edit your profile, posts and settings if you want to, but it is entirely up to you.

If you attach images to your email they are displayed in the post, and if there is more than one image Posterous places them in a neat little gallery. If you attach mp3s they are playable from the post in a nice looking player. Links to Youtube or Vimeo files in your email wil result in embedded videos and Posterous also collects your attachments in zip files for download. Quite simply genious, and very elegant.

On top of this one Posterous account can be set up to recognise different email adresses, fascilitating email based group blogging.

I’m super happy with WordPress, but I recommend Posterous to anyone looking for a simple, feature rich and easy-to-use blogging tool.

As far as I can tell Posterous is built using Ruby on Rails (a detail mostly meant for the guys at Re: who freakin LOVE RoR)

A recent survey shows that only seven out of 58 PR agencies in Denmark have their own blog (In Danish). Still you can most likely get advice on blogging from way more than the seven who blog themselves.

Now does this have to present a problem?

Well, I’m not quite sure, to be honest. I guess you could write off some of it with the old saying about the shoemaker’s barefooted children, but still.

Would you buy a car from someone who doesn’t drive?

Would it make you feel more or less comfortable to know that your bank contact has messy finances?

Vegetarian butcher?

Lactose intolerant cheese monger?

And so on and so forth. You get the point.

I guess it all boils down to trust. If you trust your adviser to give you good advice, then by all means, go ahead.

But remember that the utmost way to learn about blogging is to blog.

I’d love to see a survey showing how many (or how few) web agencies blog, by the way – I imagine they’d be the most popular alternative to PR agencies when shopping for social media.

Wired tells us Hillary Clinton goes after ‘the Facebook generation’ when suggesting the implementation of a govrnment blogging team.

Clinton apparently said:

“We should even have a government blogging team where people in the agencies are constantly telling all of you, the taxpayers, the citizens of America, everything that’s going on so that you have up-to-the-minute information about what your government is doing, so that you too can be informed, and hold the government accountable”

Two things trouble me about the article:

1) The talk of ‘the Facebook generation’
While it may still be true that the average user of services like Facebook, Myspace, Youtube etc. is relatively young, we have long ago established that these communities do not appeal exclusively to pimply-faced teens, but cater to a much broader audience. And let us not forget that the users of these services grow older by the nano-second so let’s give the age-ism a rest, eh?
BTW – my dad is one of my most active contacts on flickr, and he turns 60 next years – get my point?

2) The idea of a ‘government blogging team’
While I certainly appreciate the idea of governments using blogs to communicate with citizens, I sincerely believe that the use of blogs should be integrated into the everyday routines and not placed in a team of bloggers whose sole task it is to blog. That brings us a little too close to the mechanisms of the old school PR department. Also, the way Clinton talks about it, the idea seems to be using blogs as a means of providing readers with news updates. If the medium is to make any sense, the emphasis needs to be on conversations with the readers – you know, the fancy two-way type of communications.

But cudos for suggesting it. Let’s see which ideas are realized between elections.

Now, though, I won’t have to.

As of recently I’ve started blogging in Danish over at the Wemind blog – and to those of you that don’t know yet, Wemind is the new name for Connecta – now complete with website, business cards and everything (don’t quite know what everything is, but you get the jist).

So for now, appoulsen.dk stays English.
