Bookmarking has become an increasingly vital part of my journeys through the internet (how cheesy was that?!) – and sharing bookmarks makes finding good stuff and inspiration easy. That’s why I use de.licio.us. But bookmarking a page with a ton of content can sometimes mean that you’re looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack, when you come back to a page. With clipmarks that’s all changed.
Clipmarks is a free online service that lets you mark parts of a web page.
You turn on clipmarks (after installing an extension for either IE, Firefox or, in my case, Flock) and simply click on the parts of a page you want to bookmark.
When you’re done selecting text, pictures or even video, you save your clippings, and can then choose to publish them to your clipmarks page or your blog, or you can send them to a friend as an email.
What kinda ticked me off when I first signed up to clipmarks, is that I’ve been using de.licio.us for a while, and I really didn’t need the hazzle of keeping two services up to snuff.
But I quickly learned that in your clipmarks profile you can choose to bookmark either the permalink (yes – all of your clippings get a permalink, which is a really nice little feature) or the source of your clipping – that is the original page, as you would normally do – to your de.licio.us account. This is done automatically, so you don’t have to remember it from time to time.
If you do a lot of bookmarking, and you like sharing your bookmarks, clipmarks could very well be the thing for you.
I’ve clipped part of the clipmarks frontpage as a test – here’s the permalink
