News consumption

Inspired by todays post on prblogger I’ve taken a look at my own news consumption habits:

Morning

I start the day sipping coffee and watching TV2 (Danish channel) – here I get a blend of brief news stories and light(!) commentary and perspective on the news. It’s very lightweight, but that suits me just fine. I am, after all, not much of a morning person. While doing this I go through my hordes of feeds in Google Reader.

On my way to work I usually either read one of the gazillion free newspapers (if I go by bus) or listen to a podcast (i.e. Engadget, Mennesker og Medier or Harddisken – the latter two are Danish radio shows on P1 that I never get around to when they are broadcast, but which both make decent podcasts) – I used to subscribe to the TV news as a video podcast, but quickly found that by the time I get round to actually watching them they are ancient.

@ work

I’ll check my Google Reader from time to time to keep up to snuff during the day. Also, friends and colleagues send me stories that interest them or stories they think will interest me.

Going home

Having probably already plowed through the free newspapers, I usually do some light surfing on my celly. The form factor itself confines me to keep it light and simple, but I am reasonably entertained on the bus ride.

If the weather’s half decent I’ll walk home, though – and take a break from the news while listening to music.

Evening

Evening is surf-time, as far as I’m concerned. I’ll start off in my feed-reader but quickly wonder off to news sites and blogs. I have a reasonable amount of time on my hands in the evening, so it’s nice to go to my favourite sites rather than just reading feeds. Also, the TV is most likely on, and I’ll get an extra dose of news from the ol’ box – once again, though, I often find that most of the news on TV are old news. I’ve probably already heard, read or seen it earlier on, online.

How are your news habits? Is there anybody out there still, that don’t use the net as their primary source of information?
