A suggestion for mobile service providers

Stop spending so much time, effort and money trying to develope your own apps (exclusively for your own users) and open your eyes to a world of apps that work well and that let users share their content across the board.

Seriously, as a subscriber I couldn’t care less about which company sends me the bill – I just want top-of-the-line phones, proper coverage and as little walls around the garden as possible. And there are plenty of good, free (or cheap) apps out there, that I can compile my own stuff to fit my needs.

Right now, for instance, I have my phone set up with Gmail, Hotmail, Shozu (flickr-uploader and video-uploader), Opera Mini, Jaiku, Imity and much more – all of these apps where developed by enthusiasts that, for the most part, put their time and energy into developing ONE app that serves ONE purpose and does it well.

If I was a service provider I would cut deals with as many of these as possible – and spend the rest of the money on keeping coverage at a maximum and data prices at a minimum.

But that’s just me.
