Good news for French fileswappers. French judges show leniency and refuse to go along with the harsh penal demands of the entertainment industry. In the words of judge Dominnique Barella:
We are in the process of creating a cultural rupture between a younger generation that uses the technologies that companies and societies have made available, such as the iPod, file download software, peer-to-peer networks. It’s like condemning people for driving too fast after selling them cars that go 250 kmh.
It will be exciting to see how the French leniency will affect the judges elsewhere, and how the industry copes with it once the initial uproar has settled. For the full article, go to wired news.
