PressThink: Bloggers vs. Journalists is Over

Finally!

Jay Rosen begins his essay as follows:

“Bloggers vs. journalists is over. I don’t think anyone will mourn its passing. There were plenty who hated the debate in the first place, and openly ridiculed its pretensions and terms.”

I am one of those people! Not that I don’t think debating online content is valid and necessary – au contraire! But to engage in something as overly simplistic as a discussion of “bloggers vs. journalists” strikes me as narrow-minded and, at best, a giant waste of time. Now, finally – someone has pronounced the debate dead…

On this note, check out Dan Gillmore’s The End of Objectivity as well. it’s well worth the read, and gives good points as to how we may substitute the misleading illusion of objectivity with a few simple guidelines, which we may actually be able to live up to as writers (bloggers OR journalists!) I particularly like the fact that “fairness” – and the will to listen to those who disagree with us, are featured on the list.
